Horse Donation Requirements
Our horses are the most vital part of our team, and we are selective about those accepted into our program. We want each horse to enjoy their work with us for many years to come.
The most important qualities we look for in a therapy horse include:
- Height of 14–16.2 hands
- A quiet and patient temperament
- Soundness with no significant lameness or health conditions
Our evaluation process begins with a video of the horse walking, trotting, and cantering. If the horse appears to be a potential fit, we will schedule an in-person visit to ride and assess them further. If we believe the horse is suitable, we proceed with a signed 60-day trial contract.
During this time, the horse is gradually introduced to the equipment, toys, ramp, and other elements they will encounter in a therapeutic riding environment. If the horse successfully completes the trial period, they are officially welcomed into our program.
